Complex Litigation
AT&T
The Firm has a long history of representing AT&T in a
variety of matters both regional and national. For example, regionally,
Thompson Coburn LLP successfully represented AT&T in the InLine class
action litigation to the precedent-setting right of way usage fee dispute with
the city of Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Firm also played an active role in
the company’s appeal of the 1996 Federal Telecommunications Act and are
currently working with AT&T on class action litigation involving municipal
gross receipts taxation in Missouri. Thompson Coburn is also currently
representing AT&T in a DSL litigation pending in St. Louis City Circuit
Court.
Thompson Coburn brings the following attributes to its
representation of AT&T (and other companies who face complex litigation):
Strategic Case Management
The Firm has managed document intensive, complex litigation
for years, and believes strongly in strategic case management. Thompson Coburn
will identify legal tasks, goals and discovery objectives from the beginning of
each case. And the Firm will refine strategies as the case develops, but not
undertake every task, or review every document, “just because we can.”
Staffing
The Firm will commit to appropriate and efficient case
staffing, and never utilize any more legal resources than necessary for the
task at hand.
Coordination
Thompson Coburn routinely handles substantially identical
lawsuits in different jurisdictions, for the same client. By coordinating fact
discovery and internal investigations, the Firm’s attorneys avoid
inconsistencies and promote economy and efficiency.
Technology
The Firm’s proprietary computer technology supports and
manages complex, document-intensive cases. Using it, Thompson Coburn attorneys
have successfully handled document productions of multiple terabytes of data in
response to federal investigations, class action litigation and toxic tort
lawsuits.
Pricing and cost enhancements
Thompson Coburn’s standard rates are highly competitive with
firms of similar size and expertise. In addition, the Firm is comfortable with
exploring alternative fee arrangements to help clients better manage budgets
for this litigation, including proportional volume discounts or blended rates.
